The Grand Old Party is in deep trouble. They’ve been in deep trouble for decades, and for those of us who’re a certain age, it’s difficult to believe they ever recovered from the Nixon years. But as evil knows no limits, we’ve since endured the comic stylings of Regan, Bush I, Bush II and Cheney. After 3 years of intellectual sanity (in the White House – NOT in Congress) certain sections of the country are expressing a longing for the bad old days of incompetence, hubris and greed. That’s where Newt and Mitt come into play.
At the risk of sounding as crazy as Newt Gingrich, had our nation not bankrupted itself during the Bush maladministration — wasting all our resources on two wars — one senseless and the other mishandled — I might be enthusiastic about America partnering with other nations to colonize the moon for research purposes. Now, however is not the time — with banking institutions running amok — the world economy on the verge of collapse and no available funds for our own vital repairs to the nation’s infrastructure… Of course that’s the perfect time for hopeful Blowhard in Chief, Newt Gingrich to announce if elected he will colonize the moon. Great Newt, just great. You go first and let us know how it works out for you. Newt Gingrich is crazy. Not generic hothouse petunia crazy — but crazy like a sociopath. The man is a master pseudo-intellectual with an inflated yet fragile ego larger than the moon itself. Former GOP congressmen and Senate Majority Leader, Bob Dole, endured working closely with Newt Gingrich when he was Speaker of the House during the Clinton years. Dole is now sounding a desperate alarm that Newt is incompetent, shady, erratic and insane — endorsing Romney as an alternative to Gingrich…(?)
When you look at the National Gallop Polls, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney are in a statistical dead-heat. At the moment, Romney is is pulling ahead of Gingrich in the Florida Primary polls due to a pathetic debate performance by Gingrich, reinforced by Romney’s SuperPAC smear campaign ads — compounded by movie-star appearances and endorsements from past failed GOP presidential hopefuls. Mitt finally showed he teeth and smeared some muck back into Gingrich’s face during the last debate… Let me rephrase that, it’s difficult to smear Gingrich — all you need to do is trot-out a laundry list of Gingrich factoids, and you’ve already smeared him. That said, the same can be leveled at Romney with his “over-looked” Swiss bank accounts and “off-shore” Caymen Island financial holdings — not to mention his glorious history of ruining companies and lives for fun and profit.
These are 2 of the most flawed candidates the GOP has ever tried to foist-off on the American public. Make no mistake, the old garde Republican establishment is in a blind panic that a slippery little greased pig like Newt Gingrich might actually pull-it-off and seize the nomination. A Gingrich nomination would be the end of the Republican Party. Talk about a ‘Contract on America…’ The GOP would need to change their name, completely re-brand and perhaps even wade into the uncharted waters of contemporary reality.
As much as I don’t care for Mitt Romney, if the nation is ever forced to make a Sophie’s Choice and pick ONE over the other — Gingrich would be the one who’d HAVE to go. One of the key elements of political survival is the knowledge that most people — even intelligent people don’t pay attention. They make incredibly stupid comments like “I can’t follow the news, it depresses me too much.” — OR — “I’m not voting this year because I’m so disgusted with the candidates.” Neither are valid or intelligent viewpoints — they ARE, however examples of exactly how this country gets off-track by allowing ourselves to be distracted by useless diversions like the Superbowl and the Kardashian’s while the issues that genuinely effect the quality of our lives are destroyed by manipulative megalomaniacs attracted to becoming professional politicians BECAUSE they realize no one is paying attention. Ignorance and misinformation are valuable tools for all politicians, but it became exalted to a master-craft by figures like Newt Gingrich. If Romney pulls ahead of Gingrich, it will be more because of his good looks than his character. As comparative candidates, they might as well be known as Mitt Gingrich and Newt Romney on their amoral race to reach the lowest common denominator.
Mitt merely has more money to burn and not clue-one as to how the other 99% live. Newt with his “revolving” half-million dollar Tiffanys charge account isn’t much different. Here’s an example of Mitt/Newt logic: I was at the laundromat a while back when an acquaintance saw me through the window and stopped-in, asking me if my washer and dryer were broken. I told him I didn’t have a washer and dryer. “Then why don’t you buy a washer and dryer?” he asked. “Because I can’t afford a washer and dryer,” I replied. He then said, “Well it seems like an awful waste of money to me to keep paying every week to do your laundry when you could be saving your quarters.” This is the combined logic and understanding of the Newt-Mitt’s of the world. If I force myself to wear filthy clothes until I’ve saved enough quarters, I can buy a washer and dryer so I can drive-up my gas and electric bills. The privileged “class” are so clueless, we’d all be better off if they were sent en-mass to the moon.
